WAD is a tourism activity programme company established in 2001. We provide unforgettable experiences deep within the wilderness in the heart of genuine countryside. The majority of our trips are arranged in Posio, in the uninhabited fell highland region of North-East Lapland. Here you can find natural peace and tranquillity.
Services We offer tested and high quality programme packages. All programmes can be tailored to your specifications. Meeting and seminar arrangements can easily be combined with our programmes.
We arrange snowmobile safaris, recreational days, wilderness experiences, programmed wilderness treks, guided safaris, as well as hunting and fishing trips. We guide you and your group safely in the Lappish wilderness. Together we will get to know nature and our own potential. We traverse nature in different seasons, in different conditions. Each trip includes a close affiliation with Lappish nature, the flora and fauna.
During the trips we will give instruction into safely traversing the countryside and how to survive in the wilderness. On the trips, we will learn for instance how to orienteer using natural features, how to protect ourselves from the weather and how to prepare meals using the fish we catch. Our experienced wilderness guides are at your disposal on the trip day and night.
In the winter and spring we will travel with snowmobiles, snowshoes, reindeer or on skis. In the summer and autumn we travel on foot, by canoe, boat or quadbikes.
During the trips, we will savour high standard, skilfully prepared meals conjured up by our wilderness cook. The accommodation alternatives for the trips are hotels, a wilderness hotel, cabins, lean-tos, snow caves, heated tents or even sleeping out in the open.
Nature Our operating region is naturally diverse and rich tableland. The Ice Age has shaped the river watercourses and smoothed out mountains into fells and hills. The hills and fells are covered with conifer trees, the most typical types of which are the thin Siberian candle spruce and pine. The Korouoma gorge canyon, the main destination for our adventure trips is located within the area. The area is renowned for its numerous rivers and lakes. The water is pure and clear. In the highland regions, the water flows from five different directions. Posio’s greatest lake, Lake Kitkajärvi, is known as Europe’s most extensive source of fresh water.
The course of nature is best experienced in the changing of the seasons. Summer is short and very bright, winter long with plenty of snow. The darkest period of winter is called the twilight period. During twilight, the heavens only provide a couple of hours of daylight. Some of the most memorable experiences of the twilight period are seeing the glowing Northern Lights in the dark skies. When spring arrives, hundreds of small streams awaken in the wilderness and nature prepares for the quick approach of summer. During mid-summer, the sun stays above the horizon for almost the whole day and night. Another unforgettable time is the autumn and the countryside that is painted with the incredibly vibrant autumn colours of ‘ruska’.
Connections Connections to North-East Finland and Posio are excellent. There are daily flights from Helsinki to either Kuusamo or Rovaniemi the capital of Lapland. Forward transportation from Kuusamo or Rovaniemi takes about an hour.
